Sedation Dentistry

Dentist Sandy Springs Atlanta

Going to the dentist doesn’t have to be a scary experience. Thanks to sedation dentistry, patients can remain calm in the dental chair and get their necessary treatments without anxiety holding them back.

How Sedation Eases Patient Anxiety

Dental anxiety is common among many Americans, and it’s the main reason people avoid seeing the dentist. Fortunately, our practice caters to the most anxious patient with sedation and other comforting items to keep them calm. The sedatives put you in a relaxed state so you can be at ease enough to make it through your appointment or procedure.

We also offer patients cozy blankets and Netflix to help them relax even further.

Types Of Sedation We Offer

We offer different options for sedation based on your comfort levels and the procedure you’re undergoing. Each one produces slightly different effects. The types of sedation available at our practice include:

  • Intravenous (IV) sedation
  • Oral sedation
  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)

What To Expect

No matter which sedation option you choose, you will feel relaxed during your appointment. Nitrous oxide produces the lowest amount and is best for those with mild to moderate anxiety. The gas is administered through a mask, and you stop feeling the effects shortly after we shut it off.

Oral and IV sedation are stronger and require a responsible adult to drive you home after the appointment. If you choose oral conscious sedation, the dentist will give you a benzodiazepine to take a few hours before your appointment. With IV sedation, the medication is administered directly into your vein via an intravenous tube.
